چکیده

Refuge chambers are new devices for underground coal mines that provide approximately 96 h of breath able air, water, food, and supplies in the event of an emergency where miners are unable to escape. Researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) developed a training program to prepare miners for what to expect psychologically and physiologically inside of a refuge chamber. The field tests of this training revealed that it was received very positively by miners and helped impart realistic views about the physical discomforts and psychological stresses of being inside a refuge

In-mine Experimental Investigation of Temperature Rise and Development of a Validated Thermal Simulation Model of a Mobile Refuge Alternative

Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations require underground coal mines to use refuge alternatives (RAs) to provide a breathable air environment for 96 hrs. One of the main concerns with the use of mobile RAs is the heat and humidity buildup inside the RA. The accumulation of heat and humidity can result in miners suffering heat stress or even death. To investigate this issue, t...

Study and Analysis of Human Survival Parameters in Mine Refuge Station

In order to study life support key techniques in mine refuge station, test the clinical emergency response of participants and human survival parameters in rescue state. A manned test with 50 miners for 48h in a real underground refuge station was conducted in Guilaizhuang gold mine. The experiment simulated rescue living environment of human and consisted of three stages (the passive stage, th...

Analysis of Heat Stress and the Indoor Climate Control Requirements for Movable Refuge Chambers

Movable refuge chambers are a new kind of rescue device for underground mining, which is believed to have a potential positive impact on reducing the rate of fatalities. It is likely to be hot and humid inside a movable refuge chamber due to the metabolism of trapped miners, heat generated by equipment and heat transferred from outside. To investigate the heat stress experienced by miners trapp...

Expectations training for miners using self-contained self-rescuers in escapes from underground coal mines.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health researchers conducted a study to investigate the human response issues related to wearing a self-contained self-rescuer (SCSR). The goal was to develop training to educate miners on what they could expect from their units during an escape. Subjects included miners who had experience wearing SCSRs, manufacturers, and researchers. Results iden...

Application of cut set method to reliability evaluation of mine ventilation networks

Providing a fresh and cool airflow in underground mines is one of the main concerns during mining. Destruction of support systems, the presence of undesirable objects in the airway and distortion of airflow are the parameters involved that would result in pressure loss, which would affect the ventilation network. There are a lot of research works about the ventilation network planning that cons...
